01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Fried taro, freshly made crisps and roast beef are among the dishes visitors say they ordered and enjoyed at Marib. The taro is seasoned with Japanese-style dashi and curry, while the menu describes the crisps as freshly fried; they are also a popular repeat order among regulars. Start with a few small plates, then move on to meat or something to finish the meal, depending on your appetite.

Small plates include crisp green pepper topped with house-made meat miso seasoned with Japanese pepper, and quail eggs marinated overnight in sweet soy sauce before being smoked. The potato salad is made with smoked bacon and served with a soft-boiled egg to break up and mix in. Each dish has its own character, making these options easy to graze on over drinks.

The menu is not limited to Western-style dishes: one visitor ordered seasonal bamboo shoots simmered with wakame and enjoyed them with sake and beer. Daily specials focus on seasonal ingredients, particularly seafood from Tottori and Kyoto vegetables. The sashimi platter changes according to the day's supplies, so check the specials if you are drawn to seafood sent directly from Tottori.

The drinks list includes sake selected to pair with the fish dishes, as well as beer, wine and cocktails. Some drinks take their cues from their ingredients, such as a gin and tonic with Japanese pepper pickled in soy and a Moscow Mule made with fresh ginger. Private rooms and an all-you-can-drink option suit groups, while counter seating is also available. From Tuesday to Saturday, the bar stays open until 1.
